Who We’re Looking For

Due to SeaFirst's steady operational growth, new and flexible opportunities have become available and we are excited to expand our team!


We are looking for a Junior Underwriter to join our personal lines team. Strong and current personal lines experience, as well as strong analytical and critical thinking skills, are what we are expecting from the individual in this role. The incumbent will possess an active level 1 general insurance license. A professional designation such as CAIB or CIP is preferred.



  • The Junior Underwriter reports to the Personal Lines  Underwriting Manager and has functional relationships with the insurance advisors, personal lines processors, and claims department within the company, as well as external company underwriters and support staff.  




  • Collect background information and assessments of risk. 
  • Analyze statistical data using specialized computer programs, tools and resources.
  • Consistently make sensible underwriting judgements and negotiations. 
  • Assist with relevant components of the underwriting review process (audits).
  • Gather market intelligence to support business development opportunities.
  • Work effectively within a team to achieve efficient operations, business improvements, and profitable underwriting results. 
  • Keep detailed records of policies underwritten and decisions made. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with insurers in domestic and other markets.
  • Review claims on files and make underwriting decisions as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain records in regards to new, renewal and cancelled insurance policies. 
  • Order and review Insurance appraisals.
  • Assist the processing department as needed.
  • Follow applicable insurance laws. 
  • Other duties essential to the position as directed.

The incumbent will be based out of one of four SeaFirst offices, but may be expected to travel to any of the other offices in the group in order to provide relief.

SeaFirst Insurance places the health and well-being of its staff and customers as a number one priority. Due to the ongoing uncertainty in relation to the Covid-19 health crisis, many of SeaFirst's employees are working from home and the team members who are on site are spread out throughout the office in order to maintain appropriate social distancing. SeaFirst is following strict distancing, cleaning, and disinfecting protocols to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. 

Hours of work will fall into the office’s opening hours, however not earlier than 8:30 am nor later than 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday. Occasionally, an opportunity may arise to work overtime hours. All overtime hours must be pre-approved by a supervisor or manager. Unauthorized overtime is not permitted and will not be compensated.
